Climate resilient capacity building project in Bangladesh focuses on women in poultry and fish farming

Prime is proud to be implementing the Climate Resilient Capacity Building for Women in Poultry and Fish Farming Project on behalf of ADB in Bangladesh.

The project empowers women in rural communities through training in broiler chicken and fish farming.

Training sessions equip women with essential skills and knowledge, fostering empowerment and community support.

The project aims to break gender barriers and promote sustainable agricultural practices.

Resham Prasad Acharya, Project Team Leader, said: "Women constitute nearly 65% of farm labour force in Bangladesh, yet they have very limited access to training and extension services, making them mostly work under the supervisions of their male counterparts. A survey carried out in 2022 indicated that 100% of the women fish/poultry farmers in Narsingdi and Mymensingh districts of Bangladesh have never got an opportunity to attend any training on fish/poultry farming in the past."

This project readies women to participate in an outgrower scheme operated by a private company that provides livestock feed, technical support and buys back the farm produce.

Supported by ADB’s private sector operations department, it is a very successful example of how such initiatives can improve both rural livelihoods and national food security outcomes by practical partnership approaches.
